On April 28, 2012, journalist Regina Martínez was strangled in her home. Since 2000, 119 reporters have been murdered in Mexico, making the country the most dangerous place in the world for members of the press. THE CARTEL PROJECT follows 60 international journalists as they work together to solve their colleague's murder and end their investigation into Mexican cartels’ global political and business connections. They are all part of Forbidden Stories, a global network that aims to complete and publish the work of journalists who have been threatened, imprisoned or murdered, so that the truth can come out.
