7 July 2016 14.30 — 16.30 - Brot für die Welt - Berlin

Veranstaltung in Berlin am 7. Juli (Brot für die Welt)Undeniable Atrocities: Confronting Crimes Against Humanity in Mexico’ published by the Open Society Justice Initiative in June 2016 examines the devastating toll of drug-related violence in Mexico and finds a reasonable basis to believe that federal security forces and members of criminal cartels perpetrated killings, enforced disappearances, and torture on a widespread and systematic scale.

It breaks new ground by synthesizing and analyzing a broad range of existing information and uncovering—including through the use of freedom-of-information law requests − new facts on atrocity crimes and the causes of impunity. It examines why there has been such little accountability for these crimes argues for a series of institutional changes, most importantly the creation of an internationalized investigative body.

Eric Witte, Senior Project Manager and the main author of the report and Kersty McCourt, Senior Advocacy Advisor from the Open Society Justice Initiative will present the findings and recommendations and discuss options for reform and advocacy.

Please RSVP to Kersty McCourt Kersty PUNKT mccourt (AT) opensocietyfoundations PUNKT org   by 5 July 2016. Please feel free to forward to interested colleagues and organisations.
